Presidential Scholars Program 2026 – P100,000 Scholarship for 5 Students Per Barangay (SONA 2026)


President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has announced a new Presidential Scholars Program that will provide P100,000 each to five students in every barangay nationwide, as part of his administration’s commitment to strengthening the country’s education sector.

The announcement was made during his fifth State of the Nation Address (SONA) on July 28, 2026.

What is the Presidential Scholars Program?

The Presidential Scholars Program is a new scholarship initiative funded by the Office of the President that aims to encourage more young Filipinos to finish college. Under the program, five students in every barangay across the country will each receive P100,000 in financial assistance.

“Para mahikayat ang kabataan na magtapos ng kolehiyo, ang Tanggapan ng Pangulo ay naglaan ng isandaang libong piso para sa limang estudyante sa bawat barangay sa buong bansa. Sila ngayon ang ating mga Presidential Scholars,” Marcos said in his SONA.

Other Education Highlights from SONA 2026

Aside from the Presidential Scholars Program, President Marcos also highlighted the following education-related achievements and initiatives during his SONA:

  • More than 1,500 Senior High School graduates were hired on the spot during the Bagong Pilipinas Serbisyo Fairs held in March, and may now also apply for entry-level government positions
  • The number of Philippine colleges and universities included in the World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI) increased from 12 in 2022 to 140 in 2026, with more than half being state and local universities and colleges where tuition is free
  • TVET programs now have an 81% placement rate, with the Tech-Pro program integrated into the Senior High School curriculum
  • At least 1.8 million students, parents, and teachers have undergone AI readiness training as part of the government’s digitalization efforts
