GSIS STEM Scholarship 2026-2027: Requirements & Qualifications

Are you an incoming college student looking for financial support to pursue your dreams in Science or Engineering? The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) has officially launched the GSIS STEM Scholarship (GSSP) for Academic Year 2026–2027.

Why This Matters: More Opportunities for STEM Students

One of the biggest advantages of the new GSIS Subsidy for STEM Program (GSSP) is its accessibility. While the regular GSIS Scholarship Program (GSP) offers a higher financial grant, it is extremely competitive with only 400 slots nationwide.

The new GSSP provides 1,000 slots per year, more than doubling your chances of receiving government aid if you are pursuing a Science or Engineering degree. This is a massive win for families who need a “top-up” for books, laptops, and transportation costs.

Important: GSSP vs. Regular GSIS Scholarship

Many students confuse the new GSSP (STEM Subsidy) with the regular GSP (GSIS Scholarship Program).

Iskolarships Tip: If you are looking for a program that covers all courses (not just STEM), check out the SM Scholarship 2026 Guide, which is open to Education and Accountancy majors.

What is the GSIS STEM Scholarship (GSSP)?

The GSSP is a strategic initiative designed to build a technologically proficient workforce in the Philippines. According to GSIS President Wick Veloso, the program is a response to the national goal of strengthening economic competitiveness.

Salary Grade 15: Priority Eligibility

GSIS clearly states that they will prioritize children of members with Salary Grade 15 and below. To help you check your parent’s eligibility, here are the 2026 salary rates under the third tranche of the Salary Standardization Law:

These rates are officially updated based on Executive Order No. 64, s. 2024, which authorizes the salary increase for all civilian government personnel from 2024 to 2027.

Salary Grade (SG)Monthly Salary (Step 1)Priority Status
SG 1 to 10₱14,634 – ₱26,820Highest Priority
SG 11 to 14₱31,316 – ₱38,913Highest Priority
SG 15₱42,178Priority Threshold
SG 16 and Above₱47,933 – ₱102,603Standard Review

What if your parent’s salary is above SG 15? If your household income is higher than the GSIS priority limit, you may still qualify for private grants. The SM Scholarship, for example, has a higher income ceiling of ₱250,000 per year, making it a great alternative for middle-income families.

What are the Qualifications?

  • GSIS Connection: You must be the child of an active GSIS member (permanent status with 3+ years of service) or a permanent total disability (PTD) pensioner below 60 years old.
  • Academic Excellence: You must have a Senior High School General Weighted Average (GWA) of at least 90%.
  • Course Enrollment: You must be an incoming 1st-year college student accepted into a STEM course.
  • Accredited School: Your chosen college must be recognized by CHED.

Note on Inclusivity: 20% of the slots (200 slots) are legally reserved for children of PWDs, Indigenous Peoples, and Solo Parents.

Tip: If you are looking for a high-quality university, many students choose from the Complete List of SM Partner Schools, as these institutions are already verified for excellence and CHED recognition.

List of Priority STEM Courses (CHED Recognized)

To qualify for the ₱15,000 subsidy, you must be enrolled in one of these CHED-identified priority fields:

  • Engineering: Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Computer, Agricultural, and Geodetic Engineering.
  • Information Technology: Computer Science, Information Systems, IT, Cyber Security, and Data Science.
  • Science & Math: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Geology, Marine Science, Applied Mathematics, and Statistics.
  • Emerging Fields: Robotics Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, and Renewable Energy.

Looking for more Engineering subsidies? The PHINMA National Scholarship is another excellent option that specifically targets Engineering and Education students in various provinces.

Application Period:

The application period and submission of requirements for the GSSP will officially begin on: June 30, 2026.

5 Things to Do Right Now (Preparation Checklist)

Since applications don’t open until June, do these now to ensure a smooth application:

  1. Secure your GWA: Ensure your final SHS report card reflects at least 90%.
  2. Check Accreditation: Confirm with your university that your STEM course is CHED-recognized.
  3. Prepare Records: Ask your parent for their Service Record and latest Payslip (to verify SG 15 status).
  4. Register on GSIS Touch: If your parent hasn’t yet, help them set up their GSIS Touch account.
  5. Identify Sector Status: If applying under the reserved slots (Solo Parent/IP/PWD), secure your updated IDs or Certifications now.
